Highly efficient hydraulics for heating and cooling
During the construction of the new plant in Emden, VW opted for the highly innovative Zortström technology. Five 4-stage Zortström units were installed in the body shop, four for heating and cooling the car production area and one for heating the administrative complex.
6 megawatts total output
The plant is heated and cooled using 4,000 energy piles and reversible heat pumps on the one hand and machine cooling and heat recovery on the other. The total output of the plant is approx. 6 MW. The new factory hall is 500 m long, 250 m wide and is used for the production of the new “Passat” series.
